A short drive (or walk for the more adventurous!) through the pine forests surrounding Hisaronu is the aptly named Kaya Koy (literally ‘rock/stone town’). The houses here were occupied by a mix of Greeks and Turks until the 1920’s when the Greek residents returned to Greece. The Turkish people refused to live in the properties for the worry of them being cursed and so they have remained empty ever since.
While in the village, you can walk through the ruined houses up one of the two hills to either the church or the mosque at the top giving you a sense of the scale of the village and what life was like. It has splendid vistas of the area and Olu Deniz, which you can walk to using the signposted routes.
